Watching Over Us

Pastor David Chandler (Church 4350)

Psalms 120-134 are known as the songs of Ascents. These were written by David for the pilgrims ascending from the coastal regions to Jerusalem. It was a very dangerous journey with robbers, wild animals and the heat of summer consuming many of the travellers.

David must have travelled on this road many times after his battles with the Philistines and was well aware of the many dangers on this route. He wrote these Psalms with the purpose of giving comfort to these travellers, but it also gives comfort for us today in these trying times.

Psalm 121 is one of my favourite ones. It starts off by questioning where our help comes from, does it come from the mountains, no it comes from our Lord who made heaven and earth.

The Lord promises us three things through verses 3-8

1) He watches over us night and day, He never sleeps, It is so comforting to know that even when we go to sleep, He is watching over us.

2) The Lord protects us

3) He preserves us from all evil

So as you read through these Psalms, be assured that the Lord is always watching over us, we are never alone.
