True Community

Edgar Mayer (Senior Minister) Living Grace Church

The other day, I heard that in one particular school (a smaller school in the country) all children, except one, came from broken families. Wow. Why are we shocked but not too surprised? Because all of us struggle to love. According to the Bible, our biggest problem. If we loved God and our neighbour, we would be righteous. But we are not.

Therefore, knowing our own hardened hearts, we recognize true community as the most astounding miracle among us. The very first description of people that had been touched by the Spirit of God puts the miracle of true community in the centre: “They devoted themselves to… fellowship… All the believers were together and had everything in common… Every day they continued to meet together… They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts” (Acts 2:42-46).

I long for true community, and I want to do my part in healing broken relationships. I long for the love that only the Spirit of God can give (Colossians 1:8).

This is why I am a Christian. God is all about love which we need from him.
