Transformation to Love
Brian Henman (Wilsonton Uniting Church)

Centuries before Jesus was born the Jewish prophet Isaiah wrote of a hope that inspired peace-lovers of his day and has done so down through the years, “And they shall beat their swords into plow-shares and their spears into pruning hooks; nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war anymore.” Isaiah 2:4.
The message is that of transformation. Transforming weapons of power, aggression, death, destruction and grief into implements of production. Of life sustaining food and nourishment for the people. Do we dare to ponder how much wealth and mind sapping scientific research is devoted to producing weapons of death and destruction.
Human beings are blessed by God with intelligence yet living together in harmony has not been achieved among all nations, workplaces or homes. We should realise that there is no worthwhile future in violence. Jesus calls us to new life as a family who are bound together in love and who share and who care for one another.
