The Real Meaning of Christmas

Mark 10:45 says, ‘For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve…’ We typically celebrate Christmas with our extended family, but what if that wasn’t possible? This was the case at the very first Christmas. Joseph had family in Bethlehem yet they couldn’t stay with them and all the hotels were full. This is why they ended up in a barn and Jesus being born and placed in a manger. It must have been quite lonely for them as they heard others sharing stories at the nearby inn. Jesus the Messiah came to this world in a way that no one expected and came to serve, not be served. As you reflect on the real meaning of Christmas this year, take time to think of those who may be alone and invite them to spend the day with your family and join in the celebrations of the birth of Jesus Christ our Messiah. This is how we can show others the love of God and open their hearts to the real meaning of Christmas.
