The Lucky Country

Pastor Peter Findlay (Lifestream Church)

Living here, it’s easy to focus on how much, how many, or how big are the things we have. Jesus cut to the chase on this. “Life is not defined by what you have, even when you have a lot.”

He told of a rich farmer who’d amassed huge wealth and was ready to retire, living it up in indulgent excess.“Just then God showed up and said, ‘fool! Tonight you die. And your barnful of goods, who gets it?” Luke 12:15,20

The moral of the story is, never allow a focus on material wealth to numb your sense of God and your reliance on God. The rich farmer remembered the wrong things, focusing entirely on himself. Also forgetting essential things, that there were others around him with real needs, when he had more than enough. He also forgot time. It never occurred to him that time could possibly have an end. We all have an allotted time. Let’s use it well. Let’s remember our loving God while we can.
