Stand Firm for the Truth!

Reverend Daniel Wallis

South Toowoomba Baptist Church

Do we refer to Scripture in context, or what fits our purpose? A growing trend in today’s society is to allow social change to alter our interpretation of the Bible. In an extreme case, Psalm 14:1, it says “There is no God”. How could the Bible that is all about God, say that there is no God? Well it doesn’t!

When you read those four words in context with the rest of the verse, it says: “The fool says in his heart, ‘there is no God.’ They are corrupt, their deeds are vile; there is no one who does good.” Much like when we say that there are different levels of sin. Romans 8:6:23 says “For the wages of sin is death…” It doesn’t say, ‘The wages of ‘big’ sins…’. So why do we feel the need to alter or bend God’s Word to make us feel better about ourselves? We are called to be Christ like in all aspects of our lives, not just most of them. So, let’s stand firm on what the Bible says, no matter what happens in society around us.
