Palm Sunday

What’s Palm Sunday? It’s the Christian holiday celebrated the week before Easter commemorating Jesus’ arrival in Jerusalem, an event with much festivity. The crowd laid palm branches and their cloaks across the road, giving Jesus royal treatment. The people shouted "Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest heaven!" They saw him as king.
Did his arrival signal a change in the course of history? Yes, but not in the way they hoped for. His purpose was shockingly different. Jesus was on his journey to the cross. In less than a week the excited crowd became an angry mob, successfully calling for his crucifixion.
His sacrifice on the cross changed the world. He took the guilt of our sins upon himself when he died. The change of history was sealed three days later when he rose, alive.
Are we so easily swayed by social pressures – and make poor decisions like that crowd? Let’s be fixed in purpose like Jesus.
Soon he‘ll arrive once more, taking those who love him to be with him. History will be changed forever.
