David’s Secret When Facing Trouble

Casey Wolverton

There’s a Bible story of some men who came home one evening to a tragedy: everything they held dear – their wives, children, and all of their possessions – had been violently taken away by their enemies.

Within minutes their pain turned to anger towards their leader - the same man who’d famously stood up to a giant named Goliath. David’s response teaches us the secret to prevailing through life’s toughest challenges.

6David was now in great danger because all his men were very bitter about losing their sons and daughters, and they began to talk of stoning him. But David found strength in the Lord his God.” 1 Sam. 30:6

Did you catch that last line? “David found strength in the Lord his God”. It’s the same strategy he used to defeat Goliath years before. No doubt it consisted of David spending a few quiet moments reflecting on God’s love, power and guidance.

After that “spiritual recharge”, David lead his men in a counterattack that recovered everything and everyone they’d lost.

The next time you face any crisis, try David’s method: pour out your heart to the Lord, reflect on his love and guidance in the Bible, and expect him to give you the strength you need to face the crisis. He will.
